Title: Someone to Watch Over You
Pairing: Jack/Ianto
Rating: Adult –mild spanking

Spoilers: Nothing major
Summary: Ianto is grounded and quite likes it.
Disclaimers: I own nothing!
Notes:  Sequel to The Woodshed. Comments please!

Ianto woke on the morning after his spanking curled around Jack wearing just his pyjama top. His bottom was sore and tender still and, now awake, he couldn’t get comfortable.

“You’re awake then,” Jack said, as Ianto wriggled.

“Yeah. Is it time for work?”

“Time to get up anyway.”

Ianto stretched as Jack disentangled himself from him and got up. “Shower? And then we need to talk about your grounding.”

Ianto scowled. He thought Jack might have forgotten. Jack threw him a stern look. “Careful with that attitude. You know you deserve this.”

Ianto smoothed out his face and nodded. “Yeah, I know. Sorry.” He knew Jack was doing this because he cared. He didn’t really want more punishment though. He rather thought his spanking in the woodshed, the thrashing, had been punishment enough.

But he didn’t complain. He got up and went with Jack through to the shower.

“Jack…” he said slowly, as they got undressed and stepped into the shower.

“Yes, Ianto?” Jack said, leaning back under the spray to wet his hair.

“After the shower, can I have the cream on?”

“The cream?”

“The soothing cream. On my bottom.”

Jack looked at him. “No, Ianto. You need to feel the tenderness for as long as it lasts. You’re still getting punished. Don’t worry. You won’t bruise. It’s just going to be red and tender for a little while.”

Ianto tried not to be too disappointed. After all, he had been very naughty.

Jack washed Ianto attentively. His big gentle hands moved carefully over Ianto’s body, washing him and stroking him at the same time. Ianto sighed into those soft hands. Ianto started to get a little aroused and so did Jack but Jack didn’t do anything about it.

After the shower, they got dressed and went to have breakfast in Ianto’s kitchen.

Ianto sat gingerly on his kitchen chair in his shirt and trousers and ate porridge slowly. Jack had copious amounts of brown sugar as usual but Ianto preferred it plain. Ianto ate and waited anxiously for Jack to begin the ‘talk’ about his grounding.

Finally, he could stand the wait no longer. He swallowed the last mouthful of porridge and put down his spoon.

“Are we…going to talk?”

Jack glanced at him. “Yes.” He pushed aside his bowl. “What happened last night demonstrated to me that you need a little more attention. You were alone for a few hours and you went mad. You had the worse temper tantrum I’ve ever seen and you know that was unacceptable.”

Ianto began to squirm, feeling guilty again.

Jack smiled. “So, considering what happens when you’re left on your own, you’re not going to be left. This week, you are going to be under my care.”

Ianto wrinkled his nose, wondering what that meant. Jack stood and put the porridge bowls in the sink.

“Will you go and get your key chain please?” Jack said, running the water for the washing up.

Ianto frowned but did as he was told. When he came back, the dishes were in a bowl full of hot soapy water. Jack took the key chain off Ianto and removed his house key and his car key. The only keys left on it were Ianto’s work keys.

Jack put the keys in his pocket and gave Ianto a stern look. “I’m keeping these for the week. You won’t need them.”

“I won’t?”

“No, you won’t, because you are not going to be on your own. You are going to leave the house when I do, come back when I do. I will decide what you do and when. Understand?”

“I suppose so. Jack…what about…sex?”

“No sex. No alcohol. No driving. No dessert. No doing anything without my permission. Okay?”

Ianto hesitated, absorbing that information. He would be completely under Jack’s rule for the week. And there was something about that which made him feel calm and settled inside.

He nodded. “Yes, Sir.”

Jack smiled and kissed Ianto on the forehead. “Good boy.”

                                                * * *

Ianto liked being around Jack. He’d resolved to be on his absolute best behaviour for the whole week, show Jack that he’d learned from his punishment.

It was the end of the working day and Ianto finished up his work and reported to Jack, like he was supposed to.

“Jack? Is it time to go home now?”

Jack glanced up at him from his work. “Not yet. I have to finish this.”

“But…”

Jack frowned. “You know the rules. Come and sit down.”

Ianto pulled up a chair and sat at the side of Jack’s desk, waiting for him to finish work.

It was only the first day of his grounding and he hoped he’d been good so far. He’d done exactly as he was told all day, staying close to Jack, fetching him coffee, getting his coat. Normally, he’d go out for lunch but that day, he’d stayed in with Jack.

He’d been embarrassed when he’d need the toilet after the morning meeting because Jack had told him he had to ask permission to do everything.

“Jack, I need to go to the toilet. Is it all right if I…” he’d asked, blushing bright red and wriggling a little.

Jack had smiled and stroked his hair. “You don’t need to ask permission for the toilet. Go on. And don’t forget to wash your hands!”

Ianto had blushed darker and hurried off to do as he was told.

Ianto was tired now. He folded his arms on the desk and rested his head on them. He wished he could just drive home right then but he’d have to wait for Jack.

Jack glanced at him. “Just be patient. Won’t be long.”

“I am being patient.”

Jack chuckled. “Oh yes. Very patient.”

“I’m tired,” Ianto announced.

“Yes, Probably from that tantrum yesterday.”

Ianto pouted into his arms but didn’t argue.

Finally, Jack put down his pen and got up. “Home time. Will you get my coat, please?”

Ianto immediately got up and fetched Jack’s coat. He helped him into it, wondering if his keys were still in the pocket.

Only a few minutes later, they were in the car. Ianto felt odd in the passenger seat of his own car. At first, he kept a close eye on the speedometer because he didn’t want Jack driving his car too fast.

But Jack noticed. “Ianto, stop staring at the speedometer. I’m not speeding.”

“But…”

Jack held up a hand. “Quiet.”

Ianto shut his mouth.

“You’re not in charge here,” said Jack. “I’m in charge. Close your eyes. And keep them closed until we get home.”

Ianto obediently closed his eyes. It was actually a relief to have Jack take control and tell him exactly what to do.

At first, Ianto wriggled a little with his eyes shut but suddenly, he just fell asleep. And he slept all the way home.

He sort of half-woke when the car stopped. Then Jack was opening the car door, undoing his seat belt and helping him out.

“Come on, my boy. Inside now.” Jack helped Ianto stand up and they went inside.

Once inside, Jack said it was time for dinner.

“Can I go and watch some telly?” Ianto asked.

“No. I want you in here with me,” said Jack. “Go and chose a book and you can read at the kitchen table so I can keep an eye on you.”

Ianto obediently went to fetch a book. He sat and read at the kitchen table as Jack cooked. He did like being around Jack like this. He felt like Jack would keep him safe from misbehaviour. Jack would watch over him and make sure he was a good boy.

Jack sent him to bed early, only half an hour after they’d finished eating. Ianto snuggled down in bed, all warm in his pyjamas. He didn’t sleep though, not until Jack slipped bed beside him and held him close. Then, feeling safe and protected and cared for, he fell asleep.

                                                * * *

The days went by slowly. On the sixth day, Jack had taken Ianto home and made him tea as usual. After they’d eaten, they went into the living room. Ianto cuddled up close to Jack, taking comfort in his presence.

But suddenly, Jack’s phone rang.

“Hello? Yes…He what?...Yeah, I’ll be right there.”

Ianto sat up as Jack hung up the phone. “What’s happened?”

“I’ve got to go and sort something out at work. Put your shoes…” He stopped and looked at his watch. “Actually, it’s nearly your bedtime.”

“Oh, Jack, let me come with you.”

“No. It’s too late for you to be out. Get in your pyjamas, clean your teeth and read a book. I’ll put you to bed when I get back.”

“But…”

Jack wagged a finger at him. “No arguments or you’ll be in the woodshed and when I get back you’ll get a spanking before bed.”

Ianto looked chastised. “I’ll be good.”

Jack leaned over him and kissed his forehead. “Good boy. I won’t be long. Promise.”

Ianto watched Jack go, then went to fetch his pyjamas. He got changed for bed slowly, relishing the extra time he’d be getting before bed.

He cleaned his teeth and sat on the couch reading his book. With all this time he’d spent reading whilst he’d been grounded, he’d almost got through the entire story of Lord of the Rings.

But the emptiness pressed close. He wasn’t allowed to put the telly on, or to put music on. Jack had said to just read.

Ianto tried. He really tried. He glanced at his watch. Jack had been gone for over an hour.

Ianto put his book down and wandered through his house. He gazed out of the window for a while at his garden. He shuddered as he looked at his shed. He didn’t want to go back there. He thought about sitting down at his kitchen table for a while but his bottom was still sore and he didn’t feel like voluntarily sitting on that hard surface.

He was hungry. Or thirsty. Or something. He opened his fridge and peered in. Jack had taken away all his alcohol and everything sweet in his fridge. All he had left was boring foods.

He looked through the entire fridge, searching for something he felt like snacking on. And there, right at the bottom was a single can of larger. It was hidden under a head of lettuce. Jack must have missed it.

Grinning, he got it out, found a glass and carefully poured it out into it. He put the can in the bottom of the recycling bin. Jack would never know.

He raised the glass to his lips, smelled the familiar scent and parted his lips.

“You put that down right now, mister.”

Ianto froze and glanced up at Jack who was standing in the doorway glaring at him.

“I…I…” Ianto started.

“I don’t wanna hear it,” Jack barked. He strode over to Ianto, took the glass out of his hand and poured the contents down the sink.

“I told you. No alcohol.”

“I’m sorry, I…”

But Jack didn’t pay him any attention. He grabbed Ianto around the middle, tucked him under his arm and started spanking his bottom hard through his pyjama bottoms.

Ianto screamed out. “Ow! Ow!” The spanking hurt, really hurt, because his bottom was so sore already.

Jack stood him up and glared at him. “How dare you.”

“Please,” Ianto begged. “Please don’t send me to the woodshed. I’m sorry!”

Jack’s face softened. “It’s all right. I’m not going to take you to the woodshed. But it’s bedtime now. Do you need to clean your teeth again?”

Ianto shook his head.

“Okay, right. March your little butt right to bed. I’ll come and deal with you in a minute.”

Ianto hesitated. “Deal with me?”

“Yes. You disobeyed me. You need to get spanked. Go on. I won’t be long.”

Ianto turned and went off to bed, feeling bad that he’d disobeyed Jack, and so close to the end of his grounding.

He got into bed. Jack wasn’t long. He came into the bedroom, got ready for bed himself and then got into bed with Ianto.

Ianto began to wonder whether Jack was still going to spank him, when Jack cleared his throat and pulled the covers back from Ianto.

“Come on. Over my lap.”

Ianto shuffled over. “I am sorry.”

“I know. That’s why you’re not going to the woodshed.” He tugged down Ianto’s pyjama pants, baring Ianto’s bottom in one movement.

Ianto whimpered a little. Jack took in the sight of his already pink bottom. There was still light red stripes across his bottom from the switch. This wasn’t going to be a terribly hard punishment. But Ianto would feel it.

Jack raised his hand and brought it down sharply on Ianto’s bare bottom. Ianto whimpered but didn’t try and escape. Jack held him close across his lap and spanked him hard. His vulnerable bottom became a dark pink and Ianto whimpered and gasped in Jack’s thigh.

Jack brought his hand down as hard as he could on Ianto’s bottom. Six times on each buttock. Ianto let out a sob and tears sprung from his eyes. But then it was over and Jack lifted him up, into his arms and kissed him soundly.

“There, there,” he said. “Over now.” He lay Ianto down and kissed him softly on the lips. “Time for sleep now.”

Ianto nodded, snuggling into Jack’s chest. “Are you staying now?”

“Yes, I’m staying.” He rubbed Ianto’s back.

“I’ll try to be a good boy, Jack,” Ianto mumbled, almost asleep.

“You are a good boy. You just had a little slip up. And that’s my job; to help put things to rights when they’ve gone wrong.”

Ianto sighed contentedly. With a smile on his face and his pyjama bottoms around his thighs, he went to sleep.

                                    * * *

For the last day of Ianto’s grounding, he was as good as he could possibly be. He said ‘yes, sir’ whenever Jack asked him to do something. He obeyed every order sweetly and with a smile and he didn’t do anything without first asking permission from Jack.

Jack was pleased with him. Ianto could tell, by the affectionate way he gazed at him, the way he caressed Ianto’s cheek and smoothed his hand through his hair. Ianto felt looked after and cherished.

It was the end of the day and Ianto was taken home, just like the six days before. Ianto sat at the kitchen table, swinging his legs and watching as Jack cooked him dinner.

“Have I been good, Jack?” he asked. “Is this the last day?”

Jack smiled at him. “Yes, it’s the last day. You’ve been so good.”

“But…yesterday…”

“You’ve been perfect except for your little slip up.”

Jack served up dinner. He’d made cottage pie, one of Ianto’s favourite meals. And then, to Ianto’s surprise, jack poured them each a glass of beer.

“I’m…allowed?”

Jack smiled. “Just a little one. I’m still rationing you for a little bit.”

Ianto didn’t care that he was being rationed. It was probably for the best. He was happy though, because he knew he wasn’t in trouble anymore.

After dinner, Jack put the dishes in the sink for later and brought out apple pie for dessert.

Ianto grinned. “I’m really not in trouble any more, am I?”

Jack grinned. “Nope. You’re still going to bed early tonight but I’m coming with you.”

Ianto was only to happy to go to bed almost straight after dinner, along with Jack. Ianto left his pyjamas off and cuddled up naked with Jack in bed.

He sighed happily as Jack wrapped his arms around him and held him close.

“Thank you, Jack,” he whispered.

Jack kissed his forehead and stroked his skin. “My pleasure. You know I’ll always look after you.”

Ianto grinned. “Yeah, I know. You deal with me, sort me out and look after me. You…watch over me, all the time, like you’ve done this week. I know I can trust you to do that.”

Jack held him tight. “Yeah. Always.”

“Jack…” Ianto said slowly. “If you ever need…someone to watch over you…you know I’ll do it, don’t you?”

Jack looked down at him in surprise. Then, slowly, he smiled. “Yeah, I know.”

While I'm kinda a fan of this genre and your work, in your stories, does Jack EVER have any consequences for when HE's being a dick? There seems to be a recurring theme that Jack can ignore him, moon about other people in front of him, show up hours late without calling or apologizing once he gets home and that's all okay. While I totally get that Ianto's response is to act out and require correction for it, rather than talk it out, at some point, doesn't Jack need to respect Ianto, too? (And I'm not talking about the loving correction as disrespect, I'm talking about the stuff my BF would be sleeping on the couch for if he pulled it. :))

Well, to be fair, Jack did apologise.

But I'll keep that in mind.

It started with a flippant "Oh, hey." I just would have liked to see Jack's transgressions addressed at some point. "You were alone for a few hours and you went mad." Noooo, Jack, that wasn't what the problem was last night. The problem was that you blew off a planned romantic evening for no stated reason, then didn't bother exercising common courtesy and calling to let Ianto know you would be late, making his efforts to cook and do something nice for you a big waste. And then you kept invalidating his legitimate feelings of neglect rather than addressing the cause of them.

Just a little bone of "I understand why you were upset, and I'm sorry I didn't call and ruined our plans, but..." and then go into what a very naughty boy Ianto is and how he didn't give Jack a chance to explain or make amends. A little tiny bone. :) Otherwise, it feels uncomfortably like Everything Is About Jack in the relationship and Ianto's getting punished for wanting Jack to be responsible for his actions. Which, of course, not true, 'cause Jack loves his naughty boy and wants the best for him. :)

I think the Jack and Ianto in all Branwen's stories both have their fair share of love, brattiness and discipline. There are plenty where Jack gets dealt with.
In this particular story, Ianto acts like a total brat-asshole. Jack is the leader of Torchwood 3. Coming home to cuddles and lasagne can never be his priority. Ianto didn't even ask if he was ok! Jack shouldn't have to excuse himself for having the weight of the world on his shoulders. If I were him I would have walked out of the kitchen immediately.
But it all happens over and above the understanding they both have of taking care of each other. The most important thing was that Ianto was almost hysterical. Jack did what he felt he should do to help him with it. And then divised a punishment that made up for the neglect - a week by his side.
I love the fact that both are driven by unswerving and unconditional love for one another. I take the story as a metaphor - someone loves you that much they stick by you no matter what. They never abandon you.
As for naughty Jack - have a look through. There are over 240 stories on this journal and Jack suffers quite frequently, as he should! :-)

Also, I think that Jack needs to be accountable to Ianto for a good two weeks, seeing as it's the closest he'll ever get to annual leave. it's not like he can go to Marbella in 1989. But Ianto can take the pressure of his shoulders by making his decisions for him..

So, fic where Jack hands his keys over to Ianto? Please, Ms Blaidd? I'm sure I can come up with a few suggestions...clearly the consensus is that naughty Jack hasn't been taught enough of a lesson recently... what can we do about that? *evil grin as the plot bunnies start to hop*

This was a very nice follow -up...but it does lead me to crave the flip side - Ianto being the one to "take care of" Jack :) Oh please pretty please? You write these two so well...and I do think Jack's been a bit of a prat lately.... ;-)

This story let me a little taste of I-don't-know-what which isn't very nice. In my opinion Jack fucks up by not letting Ianto knows that he will be late, no sms, no call, nothing. I think I would have act like Ianto, except I would have hurt Jack physically too. It's like he treated the symptoms without treating the disease. Ianto was hysterical cause he's insecured of his place in Jack's heart, and Jack handle his "naughtiness" but he didn't reassure him of his love, and since it's not in a series of fic we can't be sure Jack prouve him before that he (Jack) loves Ianto, cause when you watch the serie you could have doubts when you see him with Gwen. And, it's my opinion, during the week it's like Jack had a leash attach to Ianto, and I find it strange that someone as independant as Ianto agree to something like that, for me it's not to make up the neglect Ianto can feel, it's just possession, you know like wanting your dog at your feet. And you write Ianto saying yes to everything Jack asks, does... and I'm just thinking "Ianto isn't a carpet!!!!!" cause it's the impression I get, and it's not the Ianto of the serie, who is strong, and can say no when he wants to.
All in all this story bugs me, I like punishment when I think it's deserved. Ianto needed punishment for throwing things at Jack and insulting him, but he also needed reassurance that Jack loved him, and I didn't feel it in this story, when I feel it in the majority of your other stories. But it's just my opinion.
