I’ve been working on this story for nearly a year and it’s finally finished. I’ve very proud of it and I hope it’s good enough for my lovely readers! This is a finished series and won’t be abandoned. I’m planning to post a chapter a day (at roughly the same time) until it’s finished.

Ianto’s head buzzed with information. He ran through it all as he hurried home. He’d never imagined such things could be true. His old da would never have believed it. Ianto wasn’t sure he believed it himself. But he’d seen the records so it was either true or all those important people, including the Captain, were delusional.

Ianto was excited and he wasn’t sure why. Something about tracking down the information and hacking his way past all barriers made his heart beat fast. His world had just been blown wide open with information. Aliens. There were aliens. There were aliens in Cardiff.

He made his way back to his flat. He reached his front door. He put his key in the lock. The door was already unlocked. Surely he hadn’t left it open? Maybe Michael had left it unlocked.

Cautiously, he pushed open the door and went inside. He knew before he even got there what he was going to see. And there he was: Stuart. He was standing beside the sofa, where Michael was sitting hugging his knees and eyes wide with fear.

Stuart smiled sweetly at Ianto. “Good afternoon, my dear boy. And how are you  today?”

Ianto swallowed hard, trying not to feel the fear jumping up inside him. “F…fine, thank you, Sir.”

“Good, I’m glad you’re doing so well, living off me in this flat here.”

Ianto felt like he was standing on a rotted floor over a bottomless pit. “Yes, Sir,” he said. He didn’t know what else he could say.

Stuart patted Michael on the shoulder. Michael whimpered and looked up at Ianto. Ianto glanced back at him and tried to look reassuring.

“I’ve been having a little chat with Michael here. He’s a good boy. Served me well but he should have been paying me money, Ianto, shouldn’t he?”

“Yes, Sir.”

“And I warned you. You were on your last chance, weren’t you?”

“Yes, Sir.”

“And if you’ve blown your last chance, you’re gone, aren’t you?”

“Yes, Sir.”

“But maybe this wasn’t your fault at all, Ianto? Maybe it’s Michael who needs to be punished, hmm?”

“Sir?”

“If it’s Michael’s fault, I’ll punish him for it and you can both keep working for me.”

“I…”

Stuart smiled. “Pain and humiliation, Ianto. It’s the only way to correct the mistakes you boys make.”

Ianto looked at Michael, who was shaking with fear. Ianto had had many punishments in his time. They weren’t really that bad. He’d always figured it was worth it to keep Stuart’s protection. Shouldn’t Michael learn that lesson too? Survival was everything.

Ianto looked back at Stuart, who was watching him.

Stuart smiled. “So, whose fault is it, Ianto?”

“It’s…” He swallowed hard and looked down at his feet. “It’s my fault.”

There was silence. After a full minute of silence, Ianto dared to look up. Michael and Stuart were both staring at him: Michael with adoration mixing with the fear and Stuart with a mixture of surprise, disgust and a perverse excitement.

He reached out and patted Michael on the head. “You’re a lucky boy, Michael. Now, get out. I don’t want to see you again.”

“Yes, Sir,” Michael said. He glanced at Ianto, then bolted.

Ianto braced himself. He was in for it now. He’d kept money from Stuart. That was the worst crime any boy could commit. He was in bad trouble.
