I’ve been working on this story for nearly a year and it’s finally finished. I’ve very proud of it and I hope it’s good enough for my lovely readers! This is a finished series and won’t be abandoned. I’m planning to post a chapter a day (at roughly the same time) until it’s finished.

The streets were dark. Suzie was dressed in a long black coat and black leather gloves and the night hid her well as she stalked the streets in the shadows. She’d spotted her victim and was following her, waiting for the moment.

The old woman was slow, stumbling along with her shopping. She was an easy target. Suzie had her hand on the knife in her handbag, ready to draw it out. She just had to wait for the right moment, for nobody to be looking.

They turned a corner. A handle snapped on one of the woman’s shopping bags and she stopped to rescue her rolling apples before they disappeared into the night.

Suzie struck. She darted up behind the woman, clamped a hand over her mouth to stop the screams and plunged the knife deep into her back. The woman struggled for just a few seconds, her cries muffled, then collapsed. Suzie let her fall and sat there, watching, as she died.

The woman lay still, bloody and definitely dead. Suzie looked around. There was no one watching her. She cleaned the knife and put it back in her handbag. Then she took out the glove. It seemed to vibrate in her hand. She slid the glove over her hand and felt that connection jump into her head. She positioned herself close to the old lady, held her hand and put the glove to her head.

Immediately, the old lady gasped and cried out. Her hand spasmed against Suzie’s and her eyes flew open. Suzie felt life coursing through both of them. Suzie’s life force giving the old lady enough strength to come back, for just a little while. It was strong. It felt so strong, far stronger than any other time she’d done this with the bodies the aliens had brought her and with that whore they’d killed instead of Ianto.

Suzie smiled at the old lady. “It’s okay. An ambulance is on its way. What’s your name?”

“Mavis,” the woman sobbed. “Somebody attacked me. Did you see them?”

“I saw a man running off. He’s long gone. It’s okay. Do you remember anything else? Did you see a light? Anything?”

“Blackness, then your face.” Mavis’s eyes went wide and she looked up at Suzie with terrified eyes. “Will the ambulance be here soon? I’m afrai…” Like somebody had pulled the plug, she was once again dead.

Suzie pulled back, put the glove away and left, satisfied.

“I couldn’t believe the amount of money he was flashing around. Three hundred quid for an hour’s work!” Thomas said, showing the wad of tens he now had. “He wants to meet me again tomorrow.”

“Good,” said Ianto vaguely.

“He asked if I had a friend to bring along. What do you think?”

“Yeah, maybe.”

Thomas glanced at him. They were sitting at their kitchen table with the remains of their post-work snack. It was 4am and they were having a chat before heading to bed.

“What’s with you?”

Ianto looked up. “Hmm?”

“I mean, you’re really quiet. Missing your Captain?”

“No. Well, yeah but, that’s not it.”

“What is it then? Can I help?”

“I don’t think so. It’s just…I don’t know. I just…don’t feel quite right.”

“Oh.” Thomas got up, came around to Ianto’s side of the table, tugged him up and hugged him tight. “If I can help at all…”

Ianto held him back. “I know. Thanks.”

Thomas gave him a final squeeze then went off to bed. Ianto stayed up for a little while, trying to work out why he felt so strange.

                                                      * * *

Jack couldn’t sleep. He’d tossed and turned all night, trying but he just couldn’t fall asleep. He was missing something. He was missing holding a loved one in his arms. He closed his eyes and tried to imagine Ianto there with him, to see if it would help.

He smiled. He could feel warm arms around him, soft hair tickling his cheek, hot breath on his chest.

“Are you going to sleep with me tonight, Jack?” a gentle voice whispered in his ear.

He pressed a kiss to the warm brow beneath his mouth. “I’ll try my hardest, Maya, my Maya.” He held her close. “I’ll stay with you all night long.”

Jack opened his eyes. He was alone in his bed and he wanted Maya. He turned his face into his pillow and cried.
