Notes: With thanks to oncomingscone and rowanheart24 for their glorious help! Comments make me write more. I hope you enjoy this. I’ve been working on this story for nearly a year and it’s finally finished. I’ve very proud of it and I hope it’s good enough for my lovely readers! This is a finished series and won’t be abandoned. I’m planning to post a chapter a day (at roughly the same time) until it’s finished.

Ianto had been back at work for a week. He was happy being self-sufficient, not having to rely on anyone. He tried not to think about the work too much. He didn’t have anywhere to stay yet.

It was a Friday night and he was on his brand new corner. He was near the park. He’d been staying on Evan’s patch some nights but didn’t work too close to there, since it was a little rough there. But things had been going well. He’d been earning well and saving most of his money. He’d paid back the money Evan had left him.

He’d had a few clients that night but there was a bit of a lull. He had a sit down and relaxed against the wall. He’d been sitting down for just a few minutes when somebody came around the corner. It was Thomas, who grinned at him and sat down beside him.

“Hey, you’re back at work then.”

“Yeah. Same old, same old.”

“Listen…I…I was the one who told your Captain what you were going to do.”

“Oh.”

“And that’s why he came rushing. It didn’t ruin the plan, did it?”

“No. He turned up just in time to take their bodies away.”

“Oh. You’re not mad at me then, for telling your Captain?”

“No. Anyway, he’s not my Captain. I’ve left for good.”

“Throwing that cushy life away, huh?”

“Yeah. Hey, what about you? You keeping your cushy life?”

“Cushy doesn’t suit me. I want to be free.” He looked at Ianto. “I’m leaving Kiral. He’s not…bad or anything, just…it’s not for me, that life. It suits Patrick. He’s good for Patrick. But not for me. Hey, you fancy getting together?”

“Yeah? Like how?”

“Get a flat together or something. I’ve got money. We stick together, we can get somewhere nice, safe, and be independent.”

Ianto hesitated, though he really didn’t need to think about it. Independence would be nice. “Okay.” He grinned. “You got a deal.”

Thomas put out his hand and they shook on it. “Right. Better go and break up with my boss then. Wish me luck.”

He got up and walked away. Ianto watched him go, feeling satisfied. Things were beginning to work out. He was determined now that he was going to get what he wanted out of life. And what he wanted was independence.
