I’ve been working on this story for nearly a year and it’s finally finished. I’ve very proud of it and I hope it’s good enough for my lovely readers! This is a finished series and won’t be abandoned. I’m planning to post a chapter a day (at roughly the same time) until it’s finished.

“Owen, will you help me?” Ianto asked.

He’d gone to see Owen in the med bay. Everybody else had gone home and Jack was sleeping. Owen was just finishing up.

“Sure,” said Owen. “What’s up?”

“We need to stop these murders.”

“Yeah. Does that mean you’ve got a bright idea?”

“Kiral said he’s got information. Maybe we should go and see him.”

“We? You want me to come with you?”

“Yeah. If you’ve got time.” Ianto shifted. “You’re clever. You can understand stuff better than me.”

Owen gave him a look. “I think you underestimate yourself. But I’ll come. Got nothing better to do tonight.”

“Thanks.”

Owen grinned. “Let’s go see Kiral then. And hope he remembers I didn’t do any of the torturing.”

                                                      * * *

Ianto had been to Kiral’s place before, to see Thomas and Patrick. Ianto knew he was one of the better pimps around. If he’d met him when he first got on the streets, things would have been better. But once you got in Stuart’s grasp, it was hard to get away. They went in Owen’s car. Owen drove and Ianto directed.

Kiral opened the door cautiously.

“I’m sorry, it’s late,” Ianto began.

Kiral shook his head. “No, come in, Ianto, I’m so glad you’ve come.”

He took Ianto by the arm and pulled him into the flat and into a hug. He didn’t spare a glance for Owen but led Ianto in the living room. Owen followed.

Thomas and Patrick were in the living room and looked up when Kiral led Ianto and Own inside. Thomas hurried straight to Ianto and hugged him tight.

“Ianto! You came! Are you staying?”

Ianto shook his head. “Can’t really. I’m expected back.” He looked at Kiral. “You…said you had information for me.”

“Yes. Sit down. Patrick, drinks for our guests.”

Patrick, who had been sitting quietly on the floor, jumped up and hurried off to the kitchen to do as he was told.

Ianto and Owen sat down on the sofa. Kiral sat on the chair opposite and Thomas perched on the chair arm. Kiral put a possessive but protective arm around him.

“You should leave Jack,” Kiral said, fixing Ianto with a firm look.

Ianto got the impression that Kiral was used to giving orders and having them eagerly obeyed. He shook his head. “I’ve not come about that. I just need information. I need you to tell me what you know about these aliens.”

Kiral sighed. “That’s Torchwood business. Leave them to sort it out.”

“They’re killing people!” Ianto spat.

“Not my boys, only boys foolish enough to stay on their own.”

“They killed Michael,” Ianto snarled. “Don’t you care about that?”

Kiral averted his eyes. “I’m sorry about that. He was a sweet boy and just a kid. You should have brought him to me. I would have looked after both of you.”

“You could make good on that now. Please, Kiral, tell me what you know.”

Kiral hesitated. Patrick arrived with cups of tea. He handed them around, then sat on the floor by Kiral’s feet.

Kiral put his hand on Patrick’s head. “I don’t know much.”

“Anything, please!”

Kiral glanced at Owen. “What about him?” he asked.

“He’s helping. I trust him.”

Kiral shrugged. “Fair enough.” He stroked Patrick’s hair. “The species you’re looking for are called the Drellins. They’re sort of cousins of my species. They can imitate the human shape, use that to get close to their victims.”

Owen leaned forwards eagerly. “Tell us everything you  can.”

Kiral spared Owen a glance, then returned his attention to Ianto. “They like to fuck and they like to kill. Humans especially.” He gazed fondly at his two boys. “I don’t understand how anyone could wish to hurt such sweet things as human boys but there you go.”

“So, they’ve come here for a bit of fun?”

“Yeah. They dose themselves with a fluid poisonous to humans. It kills any human they fuck, when they come. Except…well they ought to have been caught by now. Not the brightest bunch, shall we say?”

“So, somebody has to be helping them?” Ianto asked.

Kiral nodded. “Got it in one, kiddo.”

“Who is it?”

“No idea. Finding out is your job. But…well it’s got to be someone who knows enough about Torchwood to keep them off the scent. Whoever it is, they’re good at that. I mean, you’re not exactly right on their tail, are you?”

Owen tensed and scowled but didn’t say anything.

“And that’s all I know. I promise,” said Kiral. He looked at Ianto. “Now, back to you and Jack…”

“I said I’m not here for that.”

“I don’t care. You’re going to listen to what I’ve got to say.”

Ianto fell silent and listened.

“I’ve been around for a long time. And so has your Captain Jack and there’s things you don’t know about him.”

“I’m not interested in knowing everything about him.”

“Well, you’re going to listen to this,” said Kiral firmly.

Patrick and Thomas looked tense and Ianto decided to listen.

Kiral took a deep breath. “Captain Jack Harkness has a reputation.”

“What kind of reputation?” Owen asked, suspiciously. He wasn’t sure he liked this kind of talk about Jack.

“For being the kind of man who does whatever it takes to get the job done. Whatever it takes.”

Ianto looked away. “I’ve known a lot of men like that. He’s better than most.”

“It’s your choice, boy, but…”

“Yes,” said Ianto firmly. He stood, bristling with tension. “It is my choice.” He sighed and softened. “I’ll bear it in mind. Thanks.”

Kiral nodded. “You know where I am if you need me.”

Ianto smiled a little. “Yeah.” He looked around at Owen. “Come on, let’s go. We’ve got work to do.”
