I’ve been working on this story for nearly a year and it’s finally finished. I’ve very proud of it and I hope it’s good enough for my lovely readers! This is a finished series and won’t be abandoned. I’m planning to post a chapter a day (at roughly the same time) until it’s finished.
Still alone in the hub, Jack had been pacing for half an hour. He didn’t like this. Ianto should be here. It wasn’t safe out there. He had to keep Ianto safe. Nothing else mattered. They had to stop these killers. He had to keep Ianto safe.
Suddenly, he stopped pacing and turned abruptly. He strode down to the cells and faced Kiral. The alien pimp was still in the cells where Jack had thrown him. He boys were in the cell next door, holding each other tightly.
Kiral looked up at him. “You found your culprit yet?”
“We know it isn’t you.”
Kiral raised an eyebrow. “Okay. So why haven’t we been let go then?”
Jack stepped up to the glass. “I’m ready to make a deal for your release.”
Kiral lounged back in his seat, as best he could with his hands cuffed behind his back. “Oh? And why not let us go now? You know we’re not who you’re looking for.”
Jack smiled nastily. “I could keep you locked up here for the rest of your lives. Nobody’s going to stop me. I answer to no one down here.”
Kiral watched him without a change in expression. “What’s the deal?”
“You give us whatever information you have about this, then we let you go.”
Kiral stood and, somehow maintaining his dignity, walked to the glass. He looked Jack in the eye. “You let my boys go, then I give you information. Then you release me.”
Jack smirked. “You’ve done this before.”
Kiral grinned back at him. “I’m an old hand.”
Jack hesitated, thinking. The boys weren’t really any use to him. They were just kids. He nodded. “You’ve got a deal.”
Jack moved over to the other cell. The boys looked back at him, wide eyed. Jack didn’t look at them. He unlocked the cell, took them by their arms and escorted them out. He didn’t give them a chance to say goodbye to Kiral.
“Now,” he said, when he returned alone. “Talk.”
“Let’s do this as civilised men.”
“You’re not a man. You’re an alien.”
“You’re not exactly what these people would call one hundred percent human, are you, Captain? Still, let us be civil.”
Jack held back his scowl. Kiral had the upper hand here and there was no pretending otherwise. He unlocked the cell and led Kiral up to the meeting room.
* * *
Jack sat opposite Kiral at the conference table. He’d released Kiral’s hands and now they sat looking at each other as equals.
“You want to know the truth?” Kiral asked.
Jack nodded. “I want to know everything.”
Kiral’s face was deadly serious. “This is not a case of a simple alien attack on humans.”
“No?”
“No. These aliens have help. They are evading you well and they could not do that alone. I don’t know who it is, but there is someone.”
Jack lowered his head, thinking hard. “Yes.”
There was silence for a few seconds, then Kiral spoke casually. “That boy of yours…?”
Jack scowled. “His name is Ianto.”
Kiral laughed. “I know his name, Captain. I’ve know him far longer than you have. He’s told you his name then?”
“He trusts me,” said Jack, firmly.
Kiral raised an eyebrow. “These boys know better than to trust anybody. They start to trust somebody and they get hurt. So they keep themselves closed off. It’s the only way they can survive.”
“What’s your point?” Jack snapped.
Kiral smiled. “Ianto has survived for ten years doing this job. He knows the rules.”
Jack stayed silent.
Kiral’s voice was gentle. “He’s only ever going to be a rent boy for you. He knows better than to be anything more. But you care about him. You want him to be safe. I understand that.”
“Get to the point and quick,” growled Jack.
Kiral smiled. “Let him come with me. I’ll protect him, get him work. You won’t have to worry about him anymore. I’ll even give you the discount rate on his services.”
Jack shot up and grabbed Kiral by the collar. “How dare you talk about him like that, don’t you fucking dare.”
Kiral remained calm. “He’s a rent boy, Captain. That’s who he wants to be. You can’t make him be your boyfriend.”
Jack let Kiral go and pushed him away. “Get out. And stay away from Ianto.”
“He’s his own person, Captain. He’s not yours.”
Jack stayed silent.
Kiral sighed. “I hope you find them soon.” He held out his hand to Jack.
