Ianto stormed down the street as fast as he could towards the B&B. He needed Jack. He was never going back to his da, never again.

He reached the B&B, went up to reception and asked for Mister Harkness. The weary looking young man called up and a few minutes later, Jack appeared.

“Ianto? What’s the matter?”

“I…I…I’m not going back to Da.”

“What happened?”

“I can’t go back. Please, please help me.”

Jack put a hand on his arm. “All right. Steady on. Tell me what happened.”

Ianto shook his head hard. “I can’t. I can’t. Please, don’t make me.”

Jack squeezed his arm. “All right. I won’t. Just come with me, okay? We need to go somewhere.”

Ianto let himself be led outside and into Jack’s car. He winced as he sat down. Jack glanced at him, then started to drive without commenting.

Ianto closed his eyes and let himself breathe. It would be okay now. The Captain was going to look after him.

                                                            * * *

Ianto hurt. There was pain inside and outside. John was touching him. They were in the car, just sitting there and John was touching him, hurting him.

Ianto was lost. His head hurt, throbbed and he was swaying.

Why was he here? Why was he sitting here, letting John do these things to him? Why wasn’t he pulling away, fighting back? He didn’t know.

                                                            * * *

Jack drove for a little while without really knowing where he was going. He was thinking about Ianto. Ianto didn’t say anything, just sat. He couldn’t keep still though. Jack was reminded of how his Ianto was after a spanking. He could never keep still and Jack usually took him to bed, let him lie on his front and held him for as long as Ianto needed. Jack felt his insides churn. Ianto’s da had belted him.

“Ianto, tell me the truth. Your dad belted you, didn’t he?”

Ianto sniffed and looked away. “Yeah.”

“How come?”

“’Cause he hates me.”

“No, he doesn’t. What happened?”

Ianto shrugged. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

Jack didn’t press him. He knew he couldn’t make Ianto talk if Ianto refused. But he was worried. He hadn’t realised that Ianto’s da had ever given him a spanking. Ianto had never mentioned it. Had this happened before? Had Ianto’s childhood been full of spanking and abuse? All those times Jack had thought he was helping Ianto by giving him a loving spanking, had he really been recreating abuse?

He shook his head clear. He couldn’t do anything about that now. All he could do was help Ianto right here and now, in 2002. He reached out, found Ianto’s hand and squeezed it.

“It’s going to be okay,” he said, firmly but gently.

Ianto nodded and swallowed hard.

Jack kept on driving. He knew where they were going now. He was taking Ianto to see his mam.

                                                            * * *

Ianto was somewhere else. He was in John’s car but he wasn’t. His mind was somewhere else. He could feel something scratchy but soft on his cheek. He felt warm inside. He rubbed his cheek against the warm wool, feeling the firmness and the strength surrounding him like a familiar blanket.

He opened his eyes. John was leaning over him, undoing his belt and then his trousers.

“What are you doing?”

John grinned at him. “I’m going to fuck you, then I’m going to take you away.”

“But I don’t…”

John put a hand over his mouth. “Hush, Eye Candy. Quiet, my pretty boy. You’re mine now.”

Ianto tried to speak again but he couldn’t. He was suffocating. He twisted hard, trying to get away.

John shook him. “Stay still, you fucking little whore.”

Ianto struggled harder. “Lemme go.”

John struck him hard across the face. “You are mine, you hear me? And you are going to stay still.”

Ianto kicked out. No. He wasn’t John’s, he wasn’t. He didn’t belong to anyone. John yelled as Ianto shoved him off and kicked him in the knee.

“Ow, you fucking…”

Ianto bolted. He threw the door open and bolted out of it. He fumbled in his jacket as he stumbled away. He had his gun somewhere.

He found his gun and stopped running. He turned and faced John, who was running after him. Ianto cocked his gun. “You stay right there,” he said.

John stopped. “Ianto, you want to be mine. You want me to look after you. You need somebody to look after you.”

“I don’t need anybody.”

“Come on, my pretty boy.”

Ianto aimed his gun carefully at John’s kneecap. “One warning. Get in your car and drive away.”

John laughed. “You know you can’t stand up for yourself, Eye Candy. You know you want to be mine.”

Ianto pulled the trigger and shot John in the kneecap. John yelled and doubled over, clutching his bloody knee. “Ow, you fucker.”

Ianto smirked. “I warned you.”

He turned and walked away.

                                                            * * *

As he turned into his mam’s ward with Jack by his side, Ianto felt weird. Nobody else had ever seen his mam in the hospital, only family and Providence Park’s doctors, nurses and carers. Why was Jack bringing him here anyway? It wasn’t like it was going to do any good. His mam used to understand him but now her mind had gone, she couldn’t.

His backside still burned beneath his jeans and he felt hot inside too. He didn’t want to do this. He wanted to hide away.

Jack glanced at him. “All right?”

“What are we doing here?”

“I think you need to see your mum, don’t you?”

“Mam won’t even know I’m here.”

“She’s still your mum.”

They stopped outside her room and peered in. She was sitting there by her window like she always did, gazing out at Providence Park’s gardens. Sometimes, when she was having a good day, they were allowed to take her out walking there. Ianto always felt weird when they did that, when Da linked her arm and they walked, Ianto on her other side, Rhiannon beside Da. Da would talk to mam, in that gentle, loving voice. Ianto would listen hard and close his eyes as he walked, pretending Da was talking to him. It never worked.

“You have your orb with you, Ianto?” asked Jack.

Ianto nodded. “Yeah.”

“Go and sit with her and just…be with her. I’ll wait outside, okay?”

“Yeah. Okay.” Ianto swallowed hard and slipped his hand in his pocket. The smooth round surface of the orb was cool against his hot fingers.

He braced himself and went in.
