I’ve been working on this story for nearly a year and it’s finally finished. I’ve very proud of it and I hope it’s good enough for my lovely readers! This is a finished series and won’t be abandoned. I’m planning to post a chapter a day (at roughly the same time) until it’s finished.

Ianto faced Suzie head on. He wasn’t going to show her the smallest scrap of fear. He was a Torchwood agent after all.

Her gun was trained on him. Ianto fixed his eyes on it, on her finger over the trigger. She was going to shoot him. This was the end. At least he wasn’t going to die as a whore.

Ianto’s eyes caught a flicker of movement behind her. He didn’t react. It was the lift. He knew without looking who had just ridden it to the top. He kept his eyes on Suzie, trying to keep her attention away from the lift. If she saw Jack standing behind her…

“You’ve been far too curious for your own good, Ianto,” she said, the gun still aimed at his head. “I’m sorry but it’s over now. You’re going to die and be locked up in our morgue.” She grinned nastily. “Your new life didn’t last long did it?”

Ianto’s eyes flickered to Jack. He was standing on the lift gazing with sad disbelief at Suzie. Ianto felt his chest ache. He could feel the pain Jack was in. One of his team had betrayed him. Ianto knew that, for Jack, this was the worst. For Jack, this was impossible but here it was in front of him and, faced with it, he couldn’t ignore it.

Ianto realised suddenly that his eyes had met Jack’s. He refocused his attention on Suzie. She was frowning at him.

“Do you love him?” she asked.

Ianto blinked at her. “What?”

“Do you love Jack?”

He closed his mouth tightly.

She sneered at him. “Aww, you do. Are you imagining yourself as Julia Roberts?” She took a step closer to him. “He doesn’t love you, you know. To him, you’re still just a filthy whore, just a body for him to fuck and that’s it.”

Ianto swallowed hard. Jack stepped off the lift.

“Put the gun down, Suzie,” he said. His voice was gentle but it had a cold edge to it. “You’ve got one chance to do the right thing and I can help put things right. I can wipe your memory and give you a new life. Just give yourself up.”

Suzie was still looking at Ianto. “He’s never going to love you back,” she whispered.

Jack made a sudden move towards her but he was too slow. Suzie whirled around and shot him in the head.

Two cries of pain filled the air. Neither were Jack’s.

There was stillness. Ianto couldn’t breathe. Jack seemed to stand there in dumb shock for a long moment. Ianto saw the flash of sharp pain in his eyes.

Then he crumpled into a heap on the floor, dead.

They both stared at the body on the floor.

Suzie let out a whimper. “Jack,” she whispered.

“You fucking bitch,” Ianto growled. Pain throbbed in his chest and there was fury pounding through his body. He couldn’t think. The gun in her hand ceased to be important. He stalked closer to her.

“You’ve killed people. You’ve killed my friends. You’ve killed Jack…” His voice broke and he swallowed hard. He was going to kill her. He reached for his gun.

She whirled around at him, an air of panic in her movements. She was shaking but she raised her gun again.

Behind her, Ianto saw movement. He blinked and Jack rose to his feet, the hole in his head closing up before Ianto’s eyes.

Suzie didn’t look round, didn’t see Jack. Ianto kept his gun trained on Suzie. He wasn’t going to let her kill him.

Suzie put the gun to her chin and shot herself in the head.

As she fell down dead, Jack caught her and laid her tenderly on the ground.

“I’m so sorry,” he whispered and kissed her forehead.

                                                            * * *

They can’t believe it. One of them, a member of their team. They’ve laid her in the morgue, locked her away. They won’t be using the glove on her.

Ianto is in Jack’s office. Once again, they are nursing whiskeys. It warms their insides. Ianto feels numb. He looks up at Jack.

“You died,” he says.

Jack nods.

“You came back.”

“I always come back.”

Ianto looks down, sips his whiskey, thinks about Maya, thinks about Jack’s grief, his loneliness.

 “I understand,” he says.

Jack just nods and lets out a breath. “I know.”

Ianto leans back in his chair. “We need a replacement for Suzie.”

“Hmm,” says Jack.

“I was thinking…Gwen Cooper. Police Liaison, perhaps?”

Jack nods. “Sounds good.” He sighs heavily. “I should have listened to you. You tried to tell me and…”

Ianto puts down his whiskey, goes to Jack and stands in front of him. “It’s not your fault. You just believed in your team.”

Jack shrugs. “My team, my responsibility.”

There is silence for a few minutes, then Jack smiles at Ianto. “You stopped her. Think where we’d be without you, think where I’d be.”

Ianto returns the smile. “I try my best.”

Jack finds his hand and squeezes it. “Thank you. For everything.”

Ianto gazes down at their joined hands. “We’re equal now.”

Jack follows Ianto’s gaze towards their hands. “We always were,” he whispers, sounding just a little bit sulky.

Ianto smiles, then he reaches up, cups Jack’s face for a moment, then leans forwards and presses their lips together sweetly and tenderly. Jack whimpers into the kiss and holds Ianto’s hand tightly.

“Jack,” Ianto whispers against Jack’s lips. “I’d like to try us again.”

Jack wraps his arms around Ianto, presses his face into Ianto’s shoulder and sobs.

Ianto strokes his hair back from his forehead and holds him securely. “My Captain,” he whispers and brushes his fingers across Jack’s insignia.
